Every good bra manufacturer will tell you NOT to put your underwire bra into either the washer or dryer. Both machines are equally damaging to the garment. The best way to care for your bra is to launder it after each wearing soaking it for an hour or so in mild detergent; and preferably using an organic wash. After the soaking, rinse your bra and hang it to dry. (Contour bras–those with the formed foam cups–should be formed back into shape after washing, hung to dry, and then placed on a hook/hanger in your closet for storage instead of in a drawer.)

Why you should wash your bra after each wearing: Your bra’s job is to lift the bust. At the end of the day, the underband is stretched out and needs to be washed to be put back into its proper place to be ready for its job the next day. If you wear your bra several times without washing it, the stretched out underband will ride up in the back and put undue pressure on the underwires. This process is usually what helps to break and bend the underwire, ruining your bra.

Why you should use an organic washing solution: Many of your garments are made from synthetic fabrics, and some of those fabrics act like a sponge for liquids. Today’s laundry soaps are petroleum-based and if left in the fabric, will deteriorate the fabric and the stretch out the elastic. Organic detergent rinses out more thoroughly and will not deteriorate the fabric or trims of the garment. Washing your bra with an organic detergent will give your bra the chance to better support you for a longer period of time!

How to care for other intimate items: The best way to launder your lingerie and other intimate items is to put them in a garment bag, wash them with organic detergent on the gentle cycle and then hang to dry thoroughly.
